Legion Athletic Camp
At The International Peace Garden - Canada’s Best Sports Camp

Volleyball Camp List

August 5th - 11th, 2018 Equipment List

Welcome to the 57th Annual Legion Volleyball Camp at the Peace Garden. To make your stay at the camp as enjoyable as possible, please be sure to bring with you the following equipment, over and above the items identified in the Athlete's Information Page. Please have everything clearly marked with your name.

Our goal is to provide the best possible volleyball and summer camp experience for all our athletes.

We try to accomplish this by providing:

  • Quality coaching
  • Athletes grouped by ability to allow competitive situations
  • Practice schedules that accommodate beginner and advanced athletes
  • Social activities that develop friendship and cohesion

Athletes train three times a day on indoor, hard court, grass and sand courts. As we are outside for some of our practices, make sure you have some kind of headgear and sunscreen. Kneepads are a good idea for both indoor and outdoor practices, and they are a good investment for your games later in the fall. Plenty of socks and a couple of pairs of shoes are recommended (one old pair, and some older clothing). Sandals or thongs are recommended for between practices.

Once you check in and are settled in your dormitory on Sunday afternoon, you will begin your volleyball program at once. Skill and physical tests take place to help us divide players into appropriate groups so that the best possible learning environment is achieved.

Practices and competitions continue during the week, which culminates with a tournament on Friday night and Saturday morning. The camp ends at approximately noon, after our awards ceremony.

It is highly recommended that the athletes do some training (running, jumping) before camp starts to prepare for camp and ease muscle soreness. A common problem is sore feet and blisters. Athletes can soak their feet for 20 min daily  in Epsom salts (a week or two prior to camp) to help toughen up the skin.
