Head Coach Garrie Smuk (Brandon University, University of Manitoba)

For 20 years Garrie Smuk has been instructing gymnasts at the Legion Athletic Camp.
"Its always a highlight to see the kids come in and get better and then go back to their respective clubs and pass on the skills," says Smuk, who has also coached at the national level.
In fact, several of his proteges have gone on to establish careers with the Las Vegas production Circus Du Soleil.
A graduate of Sasktoons Mount Royal High School, where he was captain of the football team and Athlete of the Year, Smuk was an outstanding water polo player from the ages of 15 to 26.
He also competed in collegiate wrestling and basketball along with university competition in track and field.
With recreation degrees from Kelsey Institute, Brandon University and University of Alberta, Smuk is a founding member of Brandons School of Artistic Gymnastics (1977) and Eagles Gymnastic Centre (1979).
A NCCP Level 3 certified gymnastics coach, he is a popular guest coach across Canada and was also technical chair for Manitoba Gymnastics Association.
Smuk was also a session instructor for gymnastics at the University of Brandon.
For 26 years he has taught in the Brandon school district, the last six in the role of physical education instructor at Riverheights School.
He is now teaching in Tolfield, Alberta.
