Foot Care

The greatest reason for incapacities among athletes at the Legion Athletic Camp is damage to the feet, i.e., blisters, ingrown toenails, bruised toes, etc. The cause is mostly due to ill-fitting socks and shoes and the lack of pre-camp conditioning. To help prevent all these problems you can:

  • Buy good solid, properly fitted TRAINING SHOES or running shoes and an extra
pair for a needed change in case of wet weather. Wear clean socks daily – changing
    to dry socks as necessary.
  • Any old SOCKS will not do! You should be equipped with at least 6 pairs of the proper size of white socks. A sock that is too loose causes blisters and a sock that is too tight causes cramped toes. To be sure that socks are the right size, try them on with your training or running shoes. Wash your feet at least once a day and dry thoroughly between your toes.
  • PRE CONDITIONING EXERCISES will help your feet last longer. A few hints to
    avoid blisters:

- massage feet with alcohol or salt
- powder feet if they have a tendency to perspire before putting on socks
- Epsom salt foot baths will help resist the abrasive action of exercises
- Attention to the toenails is recommended – cut nails not too close to the flesh,
- Straight across, do not dip into the corners

Too much emphasis cannot be placed on the importance of the care of the “athletes” feet – do not delay in consulting the coach, or trainer should any redness, burning, itching, etc., appear, so treatment can be started immediately.

Intelligent attention to the foregoing can assure a much happier experience during your stay at camp, and will definitely avoid unnecessary pain, and permit you to take part in all the activities planned for you.

REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR HAT AND MOSQUITO REPELLANT WHEN OUTSIDE.
