
EQUESTRIAN COURSE INFORMATION - 2007
Welcome to the 46th Annual Legion Equestrian Camp at the Peace
Garden. To make your stay at the camp as enjoyable as possible,
please be sure to bring with you the following equipment, over and
above the items identified in the Key Information Sheet. (PLEASE CLICK HERE) Please have
everything clearly marked with your name.
LEVEL 1. Basics of horsemanship are taught;
saddling, bridling, bareback, balance, hoofcare, grooming, ring
work, and trailing
LEVEL
2. Riders with some knowledge of basic seat and
horsemanship participate in this level. Ring work over cavalettis
and small jumps is performed both with and without saddles. Open
field work, ring work, and cross country courses will be ridden,
dependent upon riding skill level attained.
LEVEL
3. Thorough knowledge of basic seat and horsemanship is
required. Testing for level 2 and level 3 takes place Sunday
afternoon. Level 3 riders will cover the level 2 course in a more
in depth fashion with emphasis on riding skill development.
Participants in ALL
courses are given classes on tack usage and care, parasites of
horses, demonstrations of riding techniques, presentations on
breeds of horses, and conformation.
NOTE: All applicants MUST bring riding boots with them and wear
them while riding. All boots must have at least a one-inch heel and
cover the ankle. Riders should have a comfortable pair of walking
shoes and adequate changes of socks.
If you have your own hard hat, bring it with you, otherwise we will
provide headgear.
CLOTHING
REQUIRED:
- one or two pairs
of jeans or sweats
- one or two long-sleeved shirts
- 6or 8 pairs of socks
- rainwear - if possible

applicants may bring their orn tack if they wish
