Head Coach Carla Zaroda
Volleyball
July 31 - August 6, 2011 (Week 3)
After 11 years at the Legion Athletic Camp, three as an athlete and eight in the role of assistant coach, Carla Zaroda takes on the duties of head coach for volleyball for her fourth year in a row at the 50th Legion Athletic Camp.
“The Legion Athletic Camp is a place that offers coaching and instruction for all abilities of athletes. The coaches are highly qualified and give the athletes the skills to be successful at the game,” said Zaroda, 28, a University of Manitoba graduate (Faculty of Physical Education).
“A week at the Legion Athletic Camp is comparable to an entire season of high school volleyball. For me, the Legion Athletic Camp is a place where I have met some of my closest friends, and shared many great times together.”
Recalling her own high school sports career, Zaroda was named Female Athlete of the Year at Winnipeg’s River East Collegiate where the high light of the multi-sport athlete was a 1998 Provincial AAAA Volleyball Championship.
She was also an all-star in club volleyball and has coached championship teams in women’s high school varsity.
Zaroda, physical education instructor at Kildonan East, is a fully certified NCCP Level 2, and is involved with the sport of volleyball at all levels including the Kildonan East Volleyball Club and 14 under Winman girls program.
When not on the volleyball courts you may find Zaroda training for marathons.
“As head coach I will encourage my athletes to do their best and develop a strong work ethic towards sports. We will have a fun week as well, playing games, meeting friends and enjoying the beautiful International Peace Garden.”
